Good morning, guys. This is Chris from The Clutch Hub. Today, we're installing a new clutch kit into a Toyota LandCruiser VDJ79 (suits VDJ76 Wagon, VDJ78 Troop Carrier, and VDJ79 Dual/Single Cab models) powered by the 4.5L V8 Turbo-Diesel (1VD-FTV engine).

This is by far the most popular choice among 4WD tuners. It is engineered for LandCruiser owners who want a substantial torque upgrade with zero compromises—providing massive holding power without increasing clutch pedal effort. The project vehicle we are working on today has undergone extensive ECU tuning and produces approximately 1,000 Nm of torque, making the 1,300 Nm kit the ideal solution.

• Billet Chromoly Flywheel: Precision CNC-machined 4140 Chromoly steel solid flywheel complete with starter ring gear, locator dowels, and Blusteele's signature radial claw-grooving on the friction surface for rapid heat dissipation and off-road gas venting.

  Critical Thread Sealing Step

  The crankshaft bolt holes on the Toyota 1VD-FTV V8 pass directly through into the internal engine oil galleries. You MUST apply a quality medium-strength threadlocker / thread sealant (such as Loctite 243) to all new flywheel bolts. Failure to properly seal these bolt threads will allow engine oil to seep past the threads and contaminate the friction material.

• Heavy-Duty Pressure Plate: Upgraded cover assembly offering a high clamping force capacity. Retains standard factory pedal effort by re-engineering the internal diaphragm pivot points rather than using a stiffer diaphragm spring.

• Dampened Exedy Clutch Disc: Premium organic sprung-center disc manufactured by Exedy. Uses an advanced multi-stage dampening hub specifically designed to neutralize the natural low-rpm harmonic vibrations and idle gear rattle typical of the 4.5L V8 diesel engine.

• NSK Japanese Release Bearing: Genuine high-grade Japanese NSK thrust/release bearing.

• Spigot Bearing: Brand-new pilot/spigot bearing.

• Genuine Rear Main Seal: Includes a high-quality replacement rear main crankshaft oil seal (highly recommended to replace while the flywheel is removed).

• Nord-Lock Pressure Plate Fasteners: Includes high-tensile pressure plate bolts equipped with genuine Nord-Lock wedge-locking washers that bite into the pressure plate housing to permanently prevent fasteners from loosening under harmonic vibration.

• Clutch Alignment Tool: Supplied for accurate disc alignment during assembly.

Key Pre-Assembly Inspection Checklist

1. Compare Release Bearings: Due to gearboxes occasionally being replaced or swapped across different model years on older V8 LandCruisers, always measure and compare the height of your old release bearing against the new NSK bearing before fitting to ensure proper hydraulic throw.

2. Spline Test Fit: Always slide the new Exedy clutch disc onto the gearbox input shaft splines dry before installation to check spline tolerance and ensure smooth travel.
