Good morning, guys. This is Chris from The Clutch Hub. Today, I thought we might take a look at a V8 Commodore clutch kit. This is a Blusteele brand heavy-duty clutch kit.

First of all, let’s look at specifically what vehicle we're covering here. This fits the late VR, VS, and VT Commodores with the Australian 5.0L EFI V8 engine, specifically paired with the Getrag gearbox that came out in that era.

How to verify your fitment: You will know this is the correct clutch kit for your vehicle because it features a 23-spline clutch plate. The earlier VR models had a 10-spline setup, but if you have a late VR, VS, or VT 5.0L, it will have the 23-spline.

The Blusteele part number for this application is BGM-9009. Blusteele actually makes three solutions for this vehicle:

1. BST: A standard replacement clutch kit.

2. Heavy Duty: The kit we are looking at today.

3. PT3 (Performance): A performance clutch kit featuring a cushioned button plate.

What’s Included in the Kit?

• New Clutch Plate: A high-quality, sprung-center clutch plate featuring LUK friction material.

• New Thrust Bearing (Release Bearing): Don't be concerned that it has a plastic carrier! All modern, high-quality clutches are manufactured with a plastic carrier on the thrust bearing.

• Alignment Tool: Included to help with proper centering during installation.

• New Spigot Bearing: A brand-new roller spigot bearing comes standard in the box.

• Heavy-Duty Pressure Plate: A very high-quality pressure plate included to complete the kit.

Critical Installation & Bedding-In Tips

If you are doing this installation yourself, please keep these three vital tips in mind:

• 1. Machine the Flywheel: Ensure that you have your flywheel ground/machined. You have a brand-new pressure plate and a brand-new clutch plate, so you need a perfectly fresh surface for them to mate to. Always grind the flywheel for a quality job.

• 2. Align the Gearbox Straight: When reinstalling the transmission, ensure it goes perfectly straight in. The front of your gearbox must be lined up flawlessly with the clutch plate. If the gearbox is tilted up or down and "hung" on the splines, it can easily bend the clutch plate center. They are not strong against that type of angle, so take your time.

• 3. The 1,000 km Bedding-In Period: When you road test and drive the vehicle for the first 1,000 kilometers, be gentle. Avoid any spirited driving, heavy launches, or towing. Letting the new friction material bed in gently to your flywheel and pressure plate will ensure you have years of trouble-free clutch operation.
