3. Critical Installation Tip: Mastering the Pull-Type Clutch

In their wisdom, factory designers used a pull-type clutch setup on these vehicles rather than the standard push type.

• How it works: Instead of the thrust bearing pushing forward on the diaphragm fingers to disengage, a pull-type mechanism pulls backward.

• The Pitfall: The biggest trap technicians and DIYers fall into with this setup is ensuring the thrust bearing is properly locked and engaged into the clutch cover.

• Why it matters: You must double-check this connection before buttoning everything up. If the bearing isn't securely locked in, it can stretch the center of the pressure plate—rendering it completely useless and forcing you to pull the gearbox all over again to redo the entire job. Take your time here!
