Good afternoon, guys. This is Chris from The Clutch Hub. Today, I thought we might take a look at a Blusteele clutch kit to suit a Nissan Navara D40.

These vehicles come from the factory equipped with a Dual-Mass Flywheel (DMF). Blusteele’s solution for the D40 is a complete Single-Mass Flywheel (SMF) conversion kit, which converts it to a solid flywheel setup. It's a very reliable conversion that works extremely well.

Important: 250mm vs. 275mm Clutch Sizes

There can be a bit of confusion with D40 Navaras because they were built with two different clutch sizes:

• 250 mm: By far the most popular size (the kit featured today).

• 275 mm: Used on specific sub-models/build variations.

Fitment Note: Navaras were built in both Spain (VIN starting with VSK) and Thailand (VIN starting with MNT), but the build country does not guarantee which clutch size your ute has. If you're unsure which size is fitted, send us your VIN number and we will confirm the exact clutch size for your vehicle.

What’s Included in the Heavy-Duty Conversion Kit (Part Number: BNN-9301)

This kit is Blusteele's popular Heavy-Duty (HD) application for the 250mm setup:

• Billet Solid Flywheel: Direct replacement for the factory dual-mass flywheel. It comes equipped with a new starter ring gear and a built-in reluctor/tone ring for the crank position sensor.

  Bolt Reuse: Blusteele engineers specify that you reuse your original existing flywheel bolts. Clean the threads, apply threadlocker (Loctite), and torque them to the factory specification.

• Sprung-Center Clutch Disc: Since this converts the system to a solid flywheel, the disc features a multi-rate sprung center to absorb engine dampening. It uses premium German LUK organic friction material.

• Complete Thrust Bearing & Carrier Assembly: Blusteele supplies a pre-assembled bearing and carrier unit.

  Why this matters: Unlike competitor kits that only supply the bare bearing (requiring you to press the old carrier off and reuse it), Blusteele supplies the whole assembly. Gearbox carrier sleeves wear out over time from moving up and down the input shaft guide, so getting a brand-new carrier prevents sticky clutch operation.

• Heavy-Duty Pressure Plate: Upgraded cover assembly with a higher clamp load designed for heavy load hauling and towing. Internal pivot geometry is revised so driver pedal feel remains light and smooth.

• Spigot Bush: Includes a brand-new solid brass spigot/pilot bush (the D40 Nissan Navara uses a brass bush, not a bearing).

• Durlock Pressure Plate Bolts: A complete set of high-tensile pressure plate bolts with Durlock wedge-locking washers.

• Clutch Alignment Tool: Supplied to assist with accurate centering during installation.

Critical Installation Tip: Crank Angle Sensor (CAS) Caution

Sensor Damage Hazard

Before installing the flywheel, always remove the crank angle sensor (CAS) from the side of the engine block first.

When maneuvering the heavy single-mass flywheel into position on the crankshaft, it is very easy to lightly knock the tip of the crank sensor. Even the slightest tap will ruin the sensor, leaving you with an engine no-start condition and a $100+ replacement bill. Take the sensor out before fitting the flywheel!

What to Expect After Converting (DMF to SMF)

1. Gearbox Rollover Rattle at Idle: At idle in neutral with your foot off the clutch pedal, you may notice a slight gear rollover rattle—especially when the clutch is brand new. This is simply the input shaft reacting to normal diesel firing pulses without the dampening rubber of a dual-mass flywheel. It causes zero harm to the transmission and is completely normal.

2. Spritlier Acceleration & Gear Selection: A solid flywheel eliminates the "spongy" flex inherent to dual-mass flywheels, making throttle response feel much more direct and responsive. However, because it doesn't mask engine lugging like a DMF, you must be in the correct gear—you can no longer take tight corners in 3rd gear at low RPM and expect to lazily accelerate away without downshifting.
