Good morning, guys. Today, I'd like to have a look at a clutch kit for a Toyota Hilux. This is a Blusteele Heavy-Duty (HD) clutch kit we're looking at, and it's a very popular Hilux application.

• Engines:

  • 3.0L Diesel (5L & 5L-E engines): 1997 to 2005

  • 2.8L Diesel (3L engine): 1988 to 1998

Important: 225mm vs. 236mm Clutch Sizes

The main trap to watch out for on these Hilux models is the clutch diameter:

• Earlier Models: Fitted with a smaller 225 mm clutch.

• Featured Kit: Fits the larger 236 mm clutch diameter.

While the 236 mm size is by far the most popular across these year ranges, it is always recommended to verify your original clutch diameter prior to ordering.

What’s Included in the Heavy-Duty Kit (Part Number: BTA-9238)

• SGI Iron Heavy-Duty Pressure Plate: Upgraded SGI (Spheroidal Graphite) cast iron cover assembly offering a higher clamping force. The internal pivot geometry has been modified so the increased clamp load does not increase pedal effort, keeping pedal pressure comfortable for the driver.

• Heavy-Duty Clutch Disc: High-quality sprung-center clutch disc featuring premium German LUK organic friction material.

• Thrust Bearing (Release Bearing): Brand-new release bearing included in the kit.

• Spigot Bearing: Includes a new pilot/spigot bearing (unlike many Nissans which use brass bushes, these Toyota Hilux models run a spigot bearing).

• Durlock Pressure Plate Bolts: Complete set of high-tensile pressure plate bolts with Durlock wedge-locking washers.

• Clutch Alignment Tool: Supplied for accurate clutch plate centering during assembly.

Key Installation Tips

1. Alignment & Transmission Insertion: Always use the supplied alignment tool to center the clutch disc accurately. When reinserting the transmission into the bell housing, ensure the gearbox goes straight and level into the clutch hub. Never let the full weight of the gearbox hang on the input shaft while it is partially inserted into the clutch disc, as this will bend the disc drive plate and cause clutch drag or non-disengagement.

2. Clean the Bell Housing: Take time to thoroughly clean all built-up dust out of the gearbox bell housing. Over time, friction dust from the old clutch accumulates inside the housing with nowhere to escape; leaving it uncleaned will contaminate your brand-new clutch disc.
